I had the opportunity to learn many things from my Teacher Associate. One of these things is something she learned as well for the first time while I was there with her. She had a bad experience in a Parent Interview and we both learned the importance of keeping the parents involved. My Teacher Associate in moments of extreme circumstance has kept parents in the loop, However this brought to attention two things. First what is classified as too little to call a parent. Teaching grade one you are guaranteed to have melt down and buckets of emotions. So do you call every time a student is misbehaving? Where is the limit? The second thing is knowing the parents as well as the student so that you will know what they need to know and how to address certain circumstances that may arise.

I learned from my Teacher Associate many different strategies for classroom management. These strategies were a part of daily school life and thus is a routine. My Teacher Associate used call and response a lot in her class and it worked really well because it got the students attention immediately and allowed the teacher to see and hear them listening. She had many different call and response techniques. I added some of my own techniques like counting out loud, playing Simon Says, singing Do as I'm doing, or a noise line on the board. All of my strategies and my TA's strategies combined offered variety which is needed because one could loose affect, so it is important to have a good supply of strategies. Classroom routines also involved daily activities. Show and tell is one major routine and the students were divided into days which helped them to remember. Great strategy on my TA's part.
