I Am From
I am from Family ties,
from one, two, six to eight I am from cowboy lane, from chaps and dust to move alongs. I am from farming time, from dawn to dusk to it’s got to get done. I am from fierce winds, from chimes and music to storming skies. I am from flower beds, from paint brush and wild rose to sunflowers. I am from Native land, from mountains and hills to prairies gold. I am from history made, from here and there and everywhere. I am from pathways jagged, from sacrifice and trails blazed to roads are made. I am from pioneer songs, from sorrow and joy to “all is well’. I am from handcart pulls, from strength and blisters to faith installed. I am from this land, from a people long forgotten to you who’ll never know. I am from billowing ships, from British Isles and French coasts to Promised Land. I am from dazzling courts, from title and wealth to hey Aunt Lizzie. I am from highlands cold, from knights and kings to battles raged. I am from round tables, from legends and mysteries told to Excalibur. I am from Caesars great, from heathens and pagans to democracy. I am from biblical times, from Adam and Eve to all posterity. I am from divine birthright, from child of God to eternity. |
