Chapter 6 Activating Students as Instructional Resources for One Another
Studies have shown that cooperative learning strategies are beneficial to all students. Wiliam argues that while cooperative learning may still be debated, it has 4 main factors.
- Motivation. Students working together can help motivate each other with their success because they are more willing to engage in peer activities rather than individual work.
- Social cohesion. They begin to work as team leaving no member behind, allowing them to form tight social groups.
- Personalization. Students are better able to help other students because their struggles and understanding are similar.
- Cognitive Elaboration. The helpers also need to think more clearly about the content so they can teach it.
