After considering the Alberta Education Approved Book list, as well as your feedback, we have decided to choose Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief.
For students who have already read this book (within the last year), they are not required to read it again, but they may want to refresh themselves on the book (not the movie) so that we can do a compare and contrast of the book and the movie to meet some LA curricular outcomes (without reading the book, they will not be able to do this....).
Options for reading the book include reading the book on your own (at home or during our assigned reading times), listening to the book on tape (possibly can be checked out from the public library), or if there is enough interest from students we will create a lunch book club where an adult reads the book out loud to the students.
The lunch time book club will be organized next week, and students will need to sign up on their own, or you can email[email protected] to sign your child up.
The book needs to be read by December.
Based off feedback again, we will be adapting the book reading goal of 15 books per student by Christmas. We will be meeting with each student individually to make more personalized goals that meet the needs of each student.
Thank you for your support and feedback,
