Young Alex Rider has just been informed that his only living relative and guardian, Uncle Ian Rider has been killed in a car accident. The police say that he was not at the time wearing his seatbelt, but Alex would swear that his Uncle always wore his seatbelt. While searching for the truth of his Uncle's death, he comes across the revelation of his Uncle’s bullet ridden car and the knowledge that someone had wanted him dead, now those same people now about Alex. Can he outmaneuver the criminals or be caught in the seduction of their very existence?
Anthony Horowitz has been a screenwriter for many years but the inspiration of the Alex Rider series was born through his love of James Bond. He expresses though that to make Alex and James two separate entities, Alex does not have the love and patriotic duty nor the age of Bond thus bringing the action to a younger audience not driven by Authority.
Then, having it’s slight connection to James Bond, we can also see a connection between Cody Banks who is another teenage spy working for the government. We could also connect this to Harry Potter or Percy Jackson because of the ability to prove themselves worthy of being a greater type of person then just ordinary. Each character strives to be the best possibility of themselves and shows their worth when the time is needed.
I truly enjoyed this read because it was well organized and kept me interested. If I had not known that it was a series, I would have wondered many times how this young man would survive. It reminds me of all the things I have done in my life because of necessity and need not for want. There will be many times in one's life that the need to do something will be greater than the want but will we have the courage to act or not?
It is now a motion picture aswell!
